An Experiment with Visual and Semantic Relationships

Nov 16, 2006 by Andre

I am very interested in online collaboration tools. This experiment is an early offshoot of some tools and techniques I am developing:

A visual 'map' as a collaborative workspace. In this case, the goal is to build a visual representation of the Web 2.0 space, including entities (people, concepts, companies) and relationships among those entities.

Feel free to participate! Just three things you need to do:

  • Drag things around . . .
  • Right click! (control-click on Mac)
  • Select "relationships" from the right-click popup

Try it out at http://web20.earthcode.com

Nice visual mapping tool Andre! It reminds me a bit of the news visualization tool that I have come across on some tech news site (of course, now I can't find it...I link to it from a email newletter). It essential does a visual map of the news stories and major subjects; clicking on one brings it to focus and re-builds the map. Maybe another of your readers will know what site it's on...

Keep up the great work!

Found it! I thought it was Cnet where I saw the visual mapping tool, but couldn't find it on my first search there. Here it is: the big picture.

What I was thinking about your visual map application is to have a way of linking different term types together visually in the map and not just in text. Like what the big picture does...not to see what the crowd thinks...
